LOST ORIGINALITY IN FASHION

old fashion, latest outfits

The soul by default is progressive so it never quite repeats itself, so it tends to attempt the production of a new and fairer whole in every act. This is visible in works both of the useful and fine arts, fashion and style, etiquette and in every form of beauty deflecting from imitation to creation. The popular belief which rose from Plato’s quote, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” signals out that a painter should give the suggestion of a fairer creation for landscapes. For a painter his landscape is a beauty to his eye, as it expresses a thought, which is to him good and this same power is seen in his spectacle.

Designers are meant to create things not to follow like others, but unfortunately this creation can be seen evaporating from their minds. In fashion world, new is a reinterpretation of the old which repeats itself after every 5-6 years. Whether it is in fashion designing or jewellery, creativity is lacking at a huge scale. Perhaps this is the reason why even after every fashion week thousands of designs go unnoticed. Not even big brands in Indian fashion world like Manish Malhotra and Rohit Bal at times fail to keep up to their name.

The height of copying is this much that even the most talked about outfit of Aishwarya Rai in Cannes film Festival 2014 was inspired by Kristin Chenoweth’s dress which she wore in this year’s Academy Awards.

Creation of new and rare designs are always appreciated like those carried out by Lady Gaga. Sure her outfits are risque and confusing and are always the center of debate but the deciding factor is the originality of her designs which makes her stand out of the crowd. She isn’t typical and she’s not like anyone else, she’s Lady Gaga.

Fashion relies on stability of transition and originality and if the designers want their creation to be drooled upon not only by fashion experts but by the masses too, they need to bring back the originality in their creation. On the name of inspiration, they just purely present old designs with subtle changes. It’s time they get rid of their confusion between inspiration and copying, which will result in making their vision clearer and present their real creation to the world.
