Protect yourself against skin cancer with sunscreen

The depletion of the ozone layer and lack of proper measures to control it has led to the spread of various life-threatening diseases over the time. Skin cancer is one such disease which is widely being spread by harmful UVA and UVB rays. The disease presently is mostly seen in Europe but slowly it is spreading its wings in Africa and Asia too.
Research conducted by the American academy of dermatology revealed that around 10,130 people in the US are killed annually due to melanoma. Melanoma is the worst kind of skin cancer which are caused by the unrepaired DNA damage leading to the mutation of the skin cells which compels them to multiply rapidly and causes malignant tumors.
In order to avoid another dangerous disease, researchers’ advice to keep yourself covered as much as you can. Though it becomes problematic to wear full clothes in summer but that is the time when skin cancer mostly attacks people.
If you are one of those who cannot bear heat and sweat, make sure to stay indoors as much as possible but if your work includes roaming around in the scorching sun, then don’t forget to step outside the house without using a good amount of sunscreen over all the exposed parts of your body.
Now, when it comes to sunscreen, most of the consumers are not aware of the correct SPF range suitable for them and they keep using it incorrectly which puts them at a huge risk of developing skin cancer.
Most people think that higher the SPF range, more will be the protection against the ultraviolet rays, however, this is not true. It is not necessary that an SPF 30 sunscreen will provide twice the protection as compared to SPF 15. If you are continuously exposed to the sun, you have to reapply sunscreen after every two hours, so make sure to put it in your bag every time you step out. Before you move out of your house, apply the sunscreen at least 15 minutes before so that the skin and absorb it and becomes protected. If you instantly go out then your skin may burn.
If you need immediate protection against the sun, then use zinc and titanium oxide which possesses the minerals to block the UV rays. They work faster than any sunscreen.
Moreover, it is important to use a good amount of sunscreen over the exposed areas, including face, neck, ears and top of your feet. At least one ounce of sunscreen should be used at one time. For the lips, you can use a lip balm having at least SPF 15.
If you go out for swimming, use the protected cream immediately after you step out of the water where you have been exposed to the sun vastly.
This summer kick-off that newly brought mini dress or a cool shirt with protection to carry that style in the coming years too.
